Get your Free Credit Report Straight From the Source

One thing that drives me absolutely crazy is the number of people trying to profit off something that you are entitled to for free once a year. You know what they say if you want the truth go straight to the source. There are 3 credit agencies that collect your credit history and keep track of it. When you go to get a loan or make a large purchase the business you are purchasing from checks your credit. Now businesses know they need accurate information  so they go straight to the main source and get your information.

Credit information is available without any yearly subscription like the free credit report commercial you see on television with the catchy tunes. The song says free credit report but if you listen closely it says, offer available when you enroll in a monthly program, or something to that effect at the very end of the commercial. What irritates me is the fact that so many people do not know there are free resources through the main agencies.  Below is a list of the credit reporting agencies and their contact information the first link is straight through the government website.

The Gov website directs you to Annual Credit Report.com. This is the only free source there is to request a free credit report and I found it through the USA Government website.

The three major national credit bureaus are:
  • Equifax, 1-800-685-1111
    Fraud Hotline: 1-888-766-0008
  • Experian, 1-888-397-3742
    Fraud Hotline: 1-888-397-3742
  • TransUnion, 1-800-916-8800
    Fraud Hotline: 1-800-680-7289

Here is the link to my source the USA Government where you can read more about your credit report and the link to the sites above, Annual Credit Report where you can request a free copy through the main reporting agencies is at the bottom of the page.
